Dr. Michael Hicks is a professor of music theory at Brigham Young University. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and began teaching at BYU in 1985. Dr. Hicks is not only a musician but an author and poet as well, with four books and several published poems and articles. His wide repertoire of chamber and solo pieces have been performed by ensembles and performers for decades. His piano skills can be heard on several Tantara albums and his singer-songwriter ability is showcased on his album Valentine St. Dr. Michael Hicks has won several awards for his writing about music and is recognized for his musical expertise.
